DISCIPLESHIP

A disciple of Jesus Christ is someone who has made the decision to follow Jesus with their whole life—learning from him, living like him, and loving as he loved.

Discipleship isn't about having all the answers or getting everything right. It’s a lifelong journey of growing in grace, deepening faith, and reshaping one’s life around the teachings and example of Christ. Disciples are those who continue to reflect, learn, and adjust their beliefs and actions in response to God's ongoing work in their lives.

Jesus said to the people who had come to believe in him:

“If you continue to follow my teaching, you are really my disciples. You will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.”

—John 8:31–32 (CEB)

In the United Methodist tradition, discipleship is nurtured through worship, prayer, small group study, service, and acts of justice and compassion. We grow together as we seek to live out our faith in the world.

Small Groups

Jesus said: “For where two or three are gathered together in my name, I am there with them”
Matthew 18:20
A Small Group brings believers together in fellowship.  The members of the group, usually numbering 6-10, support each other as they grow in faith through discussions and prayer.  They may meet in the church building or in a home.  It is important to meet in a comfortable, private location, where everyone may speak, share, and be heard.  Small groups build relationships and understanding, just as Jesus did with his group of Twelve.  They may meet weekly or every other week.

What is a Small Group?

People come to church to worship and to hear an inspiring sermon.  Being in a Small Group allows people to connect with other Christians in a personal way.  They may study, ask questions, and discuss matters in a relaxed setting.  Small Group members will see their faith grow, make new and lasting friendships, and have a support network for difficult times.

What Is the purpose and benefits of a small group?

There is a team of small group facilitators who will be happy to help you! Please talk to one of us at the Small Groups table in the lobby or call the Church Office:  239-482-8950
